After breakfast, hike down to Bear Creek, which is just at the bottom of your driveway. Follow the creek to the Bear Canyon trail head. The well-maintained trail follows Bear Creek up the lush, spectacular canyon and eventually to the Bear Lakes. This trail stays close to the cascading waters of the creek, gaining relatively little elevation making for an easy hike and very pleasurable experience.
You'll have to hustle to be home in time for lunch. After lunch the more adventurous among you strike out to climb Mount Ellis. After heading back down the driveway and across Bear Creek, you will face a climb that culminates at Mount Ellis' 7,700 ft. summit--3,000 ft. higher than where you started.
